2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic has changed life as we know it. But that doesn't mean you can't have any responsible fun this holidays.

"100 Things to Do in Fort Collins Before You Die" author Deborah Bouziden recently shared with us 10 safe things to do. Her book is available online on Amazon, on Bouziden's website or at Old Firehouse Books.

Here's her list:

  1. Walk outdoors or drive through downtown Fort Collins to view the lights.  While there won't be a special lighting ceremony this year, driving or walking through the area will give you the same experience. Don’t forget to bring the popcorn and hot chocolate in the car for added effect.
  2. Drive around at the Gardens on Spring Creek to view the light display there. Dress warm and cover your face with a scarf if you decide to walk around the area.
  3. Cooking classes at Ginger and Baker will be spaced for social distancing and limited to a small number of participants, so if you’re wanting to do something different, check out what they are offering.
  4. Go online and order your holiday spices from Old Town Spice Shop and Savory Spice Shop. They will get your order ready and you can pick it up right from their front doors.
  5. Call and see if a private or online class can be scheduled with Board and Brush, My Sister Knits, or Loopy Ewe if you have your heart set on making your own gifts this year.
  6. Nights out are still possible. Order take out from one of the local restaurants like Café de Bangkok, White Tree, Silver Grille Café, or Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant. Create your own charcuterie platter from items picked up at Cheese Importers, the Welsh Rabbit Cheese Shop, or The Fox and The Crow.
  7. For your holiday parties, go online and order your favorite spirits from Ten Bears Winery, CopperMuse Distillery, and New Belgium Brewery Company. They can ship or have your order ready to pick up when you arrive.
  8. Hiking, biking, and animal watching is still available. If you want to get outside, bundle up, throw your scarf across your face, and enjoy Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, Spring Creek Trails, Lory State Park, Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area, or Soapstone Prairie Natural Area. You could do your outdoor activity and then pick up take out. It can be the ending of a perfect day as you warm up in front of a roaring fire.
  9. Looking for specific kinds of gifts, visit The Cupboard’s, Mountain Goldworks, Akinz, Nature’s Own, and Old Firehouse Books’ websites. The book, 100 Things to do in Fort Collins before You Die, is a great gift, and can be found at Old Firehouse Books. Order early enough and the author will sign it for you. You can shop safely from your home and have treasures you find shipped right to your door.
  10. If the weather is just right, why not gather up the kids, get their sleds and find a local, snow-covered, public hill by one of the many parks in Fort Collins to slide down. Hot chocolate, apple cider, and popcorn is also a must here.
