It's the most wonderful time of the year...the time where we're celebrating one Fort Collins brewery every day in December! Welcome to the 25 Beers of Christmas.

Today's brew has a fun, historical backstory: it's Zwei Brewing's Doppelbock, a beer that has become a Christmas tradition for the brewers.

According to the brewery, Doppelbock has origins dating back to the early 1600s.

Brewers of the Doppelbock were Franciscan monks who intended the beer to be a substitute for meals while fasting, creating “liquid bread”.

Bread is my number one favorite food, so this makes me thirsty for some Zwei.

The beer features notes of toffee and has a complex, malty taste, and that, paired with its strength, makes it the perfect wintertime brew.

Let Doppelbock warm you up this weekend over at Zwei, and let us know in the comments if you've given Doppelbock a try!
