Second Lady Karen Pence is scheduled to visit Rocky Mountain National Park and the Marcus Institute for Brain Health at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus on Thursday.

The wife of Vice President Mike Pence will speak on the mental health benefits of the outdoors, according to the Estes Park Trail Gazette.

After visiting Rocky Mountain National Park, Mrs. Pence will visit the art therapy program at the Marcus Institute in Aurora. She'll meet with art therapist Gayla Elliott, two former veteran patients, and other members of the Institute’s staff.

Mrs. Pence is the Lead Ambassador for PREVENTS, an interagency task force that stands for the President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide.

In response to COVID-19, the task force has been designed to help people deal with the stress and anxiety caused by the pandemic by encouraging them to care for their mental health.

The Trump Administration has recently invited states to apply for federal waivers that would cut coverage and benefits to millions of Americans with behavioral health issues, including mental health and substance use disorders (SUDs).
