Sure, it's still scorching hot outside but fall is fast approaching and now is a good time to plan some really fun and breathtaking trips if you're looking to see some stunning fall colors and fully appreciate all that Colorado has to offer.

Fall is the time of year when the weather is still beautiful (most of the time) the roads in the high country are still clear and ready for exploration, and memories are just waiting to be made.

We here in Colorado are blessed with some of the most incredible scenery in the world  and there's no better time to explore that scenery than during the fall.

These particular road trips are filled with adventure, fun and of course: views. One of my favorite things to do in the fall is get in the car, start driving, and see where I end up. Now, with this being my first full summer here in Colorado with my family, we are going to be planning (at least a little bit) to hit a couple of these road trips, and at LEAST to take in everything that this wonderful state has to offer.

Personally, I've only done two of these,  the Independence Pass and Peak to Peak highway drives last fall, and they were both breathtaking. While I didn't roll video on the drive, I found some great drives on YouTube that I wanted to share just to show how impressive fall truly is in these areas.

Let's take a peek at some of these other stunning drives through Colorado in the fall that I came across on YouTube and perhaps it can spawn a road trip or fall adventure for you and your family.

1. Peak to Peak Highway

We'll start with this one, because this is one of the drives that I've actually been on and was thoroughly impressed by. On our trip out to Central City last fall, we decided to take the backroads and head down through Blackhawk back to Fort Collins and ended up on this highway, which is absolutely stunning.

2. Independence Pass

Independence Pass is the highest paved pass in North America, peaking at more than 12,000 feet above sea level. It's a very popular route back and forth between Twin Lakes and Aspen.

3. Poudre River Canyon

Duh...we know about this one, but if you don't or if you are new in town, you definitely want to check out this drive as soon as possible. It is Colorado's only nationally designated Wild and Scenic River. (Side note) If you have kids in the car, there's a really cool playground about 30 minutes or so out of Fort Collins that has a cool nature playground, trails and rocks along the river.

4. Buffalo Pass

This one is little more of a bumpy ride and for higher clearance vehicles but if you have a jeep or another vehicle of the sort, you can have some serious fun and catch some stunning colors starting in the Steamboat Springs area and head down to Walden.

5.Trail Ridge Road

From Estes Park to Grand Lake, this is a classic Colorado drive any time of the year but especially in the fall. The highest continuous paved road in America and during the fall months (weather pending) you can get away and check out some of the best scenery not just in Colorado but in the entire country.
