Aug. 7 looks like detours and traffic for Boulder County, Colo. But, for a reason other than construction. The Ironman Boulder 70.3 race is coming to town.

With 70.3 miles of a swim, bike and run through Boulder County, it would make sense that some roads would be shut down. Residents will obviously have access to their homes, but they should expect delays and detours. Boulder County Sheriff, Colorado State Patrol, and volunteer traffic marshals will all be out and about to help direct travelers.

There is a map of the course and the detour routes available online for anyone traveling through or living in the area.

In order to avoid crossing the course, it that's possible, Boulder County suggests using US 36/N. Foothills Highway, CO 66/Ute Highway, Jay Road, Airport Road, and/or Hover Road. If you need to cross the course, law enforcement will be able to direct you through, but there will be delays.

Beginning Aug. 5 at noon, Boulder Reservoir will also be closed to anyone who doesn't have an Ironman access pass. The reservoir will reopen on Aug. 8 at 7 a.m.

If you are planning to watch the race at all, do not drive or bank on parking. All spectators are required to take the spectator shuttle services to Boulder Reservoir. If you get to the race either before 7 a.m. or after 2 p.m., you must have a valid access pass to get into the confines of the race, or use the shuttle.

Boulder County also suggests that recreational cyclists should avoid the area of the race course as much as possible.
