Christmas 2021 in Fort Collins – Tuba Christmas on Oak Plaza
The sounds of brass instruments goes with the holidays as much as the lights in Old Town Fort Collins; bring on the tubas.
A chill in the air, a hot cocoa in your hands and the sounds of 100 tubas and euphoniums, and a former Loveland mayor; that will be the setting on December 11, 2021, for one hour of traditional Christmas favorites.
Cecil Gutierrez moved to Loveland in 1976 and was Director of Bands for Thompson Valley High and then Loveland High for a total of nearly 30 years, retiring in 1999. Starting in 2009, he served four terms as the Mayor of Loveland. These days you can find him conducting the Tuba Christmas show.
Having myself attended Loveland High, I need to get out and see this show on Saturday, December 11, at 2 p.m. on the Oak Street Plaza. One hour of 100 musicians playing great holiday classics for free for folks to enjoy and sing-along to if they so choose.
Though it is a national event, I wonder where these local musicians all come from to perform that day? The weather looks like it's going to be fantastic, so they should have a great crowd, which means great things to the businesses in Downtown and Old Town that day.
After the concert, you can do some Christmas shopping or just relax; maybe grab a beer at Coppersmith's; I really enjoy that place around the holidays. Then, stick around to see the Holiday Lights after the sun sets; it will make for a perfect holiday Saturday in Fort Collins.
