City of Fort Collins to End Local Mask Order on Monday

Wearing a mask will soon be (mostly) optional in Fort Collins.

According to a press release from the City of Fort Collins, the City will rescind its local face covering order on Monday (May 17), after which it will adhere to state orders and guidelines.

The change follows the Larimer County Department of Health & Environment's (LCDHE) announcement that all county COVID-19 restrtictions will also expire on Monday.

The release noted that, while the shift won't take place until after the weekend, the City is no longer enforcing its current order.

Despite the CDC's report that fully-vaccinated people do not have to wear masks anymore, Colorado still has a statewide mask mandate in place. However, Gov. Polis has relaxed face covering requirements.

"The new statewide guidance indicates that individuals who are fully vaccinated no longer need to wear a mask unless the business or setting they are in requires them," read the release. "Masks are still required statewide in some settings including schools, childcare and healthcare settings."

Masks are also still required on airplanes, trains, buses, and other forms of public transit.

These loosened restrictions are a result of Larimer County's high COVID-19 vaccination rate. Earlier this week, the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce revealed that 60% of residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
