It cannot be denied that the talk of the college football world has been almost entirely about Deion Sanders, after he was named head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes late last year. I cannot remember another head coach, of any kind, under this much of a microscope, and that's pretty much how it's been since the announcement was made in December.

While I also hope 'Coach Prime' can bring the University of Colorado Boulder a winning program, and he's already made lots of moves that seem aimed in that direction, I also recognize that nothing like this ever changes overnight. However, as Coach Sanders reminded us of himself this week, the world is watching. Unfortunately, that could be the exact thing setting Colorado up for major disappointment, before the experiment has even really started.

Now, don't get me wrong: the overwhelming excitement surrounding football at CU is beyond awesome. We haven't seen anything close in years, and I always love to see fans getting the chance to be, well, fans. There also seems to be a general opinion in parts of the fan base that this turnaround is a forgone conclusion, as if it were already done and the 1-11 days were over. The truth, however, is that you can make big moves and succeed just as easily as you can make big moves and end up exactly where you were in the first place.

These fans are doing themselves a major disservice, counting their chickens before they hatch, so to speak. While initial results from Coach Sanders seem promising, as the old saying goes, "Everybody has a game plan until they get hit," and we won't know what it looks like when the 'new' Buffaloes get hit until they actually do. I'm not saying you shouldn't be excited, I'm just saying you may want to temper your excitement, just a bit.
