The unofficial last weekend of summer will bring a gathering of 70 hot air balloons to Colorado Springs, with the annual "Labor Day Lift Off."

The event recently won the Gold medal for Best Local Festival in Colorado Springs' "Best of the Spring," which means the locals love it, and we should check it out. What does your summer look like?

With the last two years being ham-stringed by the pandemic, and end of season road trip from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs definitely seems to be in order. It's just over two hours in the car to where the event is taking place, where you can see the beauty of the area along with the beauty and wonder of hot air balloons.

Pikes Peak will be in the background as these balloons lift off each morning, and at night there will be a 'glow.' There'll be a 5K, a beer/mimosa garden, sky divers, and tons of live entertainment throughout the weekend. I say, 'Why not?'

There are many places to stay the weekend in the Colorado Springs area, including the fanciest hotel around, The Broadmoor, which will run you about $1,500 for a three-night stay. May I suggest Kinship Landing, which seems very nice, but runs only about $350.

Of course while you're in the Colorado Spring area over Labor Day weekend, you can also check out many other great sites, like Garden of the Gods, which is wonderful.
