Colorado State University is waiving the dorm cancellation fee for students who choose to move out of their residence hall early amid coronavirus concerns.

Many students are choosing to leave the dorms now that CSU is moving all classes online for the remainder of the semester.

But after reportedly receiving a notice that anyone moving out would have to pay a cancellation fee, students became concerned.

According to The Coloradoan,  the university is now mitigating those concerns by waiving the cancellation fee.

An email sent to students on Wednesday (March 18) announced that students will receive their $350 deposit for housing back.

Deposits will be rolled over for those who have applied for housing next year.

Refunds are expected to be processed by the end of May if students alert the university of their plans by Friday (March 20).

Despite the fact that there are currently no positive COVID-19 cases associated with CSU, the university is encouraging students to go home if they are able to.

Students planning to move out must schedule a time slot here to collect their belongings.

No more than 49 people will be allowed in a building during each time slot, and attendees are being asked to practice social distancing. Keys can be dropped off at the front desk or in the student's mail slot.

Students are required to check out of the dorms by May 16.

For students who are unable to meet that deadline, the university is arranging for third-party vendors to store their belongings. Items will be secured in the dorms until they can be collected.
