Grand Junction's Highlands Craft Distillery has created a high alpine hangout, unlike anywhere else in the state. The distillery serves its vodka and gin-based cocktails from a bar located in a bright teal yurt that's behind the main building.

The yurt bar opened earlier this year but has already become a favorite spot for locals in the Grand Valley to grab a drink. The Highlands' labor of love has an awesome atmosphere and laid-back vibe. Inside, long tables line the edge of the yurt, and the bar sits right in the center of it all. Other touches, like the warm lighting and faux fur blankets on the seats, add to the overall coziness of the stylish space.

There are additional tables right outside of the round structure, as well as a cool umbrella canopy patio where guests can lounge. A food truck is on-site to keep bellies full. Plus, the distillery is situated on a lavender farm, so the grounds are an especially scenic place to sit and sip.

Even when it's raining or snowing on the western slope, the inside of the yurt stays warm and dry, keeping guests toasty in more ways than one.

Highlands Craft Distillery is currently open Wednesday through Sunday, but daily hours vary.
