Police arrested one of Craig's newest city councilors on Friday, October 11, for three sex-related felonies, according to the Craig Press

The arrest of Brian Paul MacKenzie took place near Denver, shortly after he was caught in an undercover sting operation on October 10.

As part of the operation, a sheriff's investigator was posing as an underage girl named Kylie. Police posted a picture of "Kylie" online, and MacKenzie soon began to message her, starting a line of communication.

The officer, acting as Kylie, told MacKenzie that she was only 14 years old, but he continued to pursue her. After sending multiple explicit messages, the councilman agreed to meet the girl on October 11.

Prior to the meeting, MacKenzie continued to message the undercover investigators, asking for nude photos and describing various sexual acts.

Using information from his cell phone, police arrested him on three felony charges: internet luring of a child, internet sexual exploitation of a child, and a criminal attempt to sexually assault a child.

According to an arrest affidavit filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, MacKenzie claims that he did not realize he was speaking with an underage girl.

He told police that he knew it was a setup and that he was never going to have sex with her, maintaining his innocence and promising to fight all of the charges.

He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail following his arrest. His next court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow (October 18) at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
