Denver Comedy Club Makes Headlines for Declining to Book Louis C.K.
It looks like Louis C.K. won't be making his comeback in Colorado. The owner of Denver's renowned Comedy Works says she was conflicted about the decision to decline an appearance by the comedian.
The online publication, Jezebel, recently reported that Wende Curtis, who is the owner and CEO of Comedy Works, decided not to host Louis C.K. in Denver following his controversial involvement in the #metoo movement and distasteful remarks.
Curtis told Jezebel that she was ultimately conflicted, stating, 'I respect his comedy. I’ve come up with his comedy ... And I believe in second chances. Everybody makes mistakes. I’ve made so many myself.' However, she felt he wasn't changing his ways.
Denver Post's The Know reported that in a recent comedy routine, C.K. said, 'Cause you went to a high school where kids got shot, why does that mean I have to listen to you? Why does that make you interesting? You didn’t get shot. You pushed some fat kid in the way and now I gotta listen to you talking?'
So, Curtis decided to reach out to an alleged victim of C.K.'s misconduct and asked how she'd feel, and came to a decision. Read the full story from Jezebel here.
9NEWS notes that Curtis' decision was made prior to C.K.'s comment on school shootings.
