The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is mourning the loss of one of its own.

The agency announced the news in a press release, stating that Eduard Faktorovich, a TSA officer at the Denver International Airport (DEN), died of COVID-19 on Monday (Nov. 16).

"His colleagues remember him as a kind and respectful person, who always had a smile on his face," read the release. "TSA offers its sincerest condolences to Officer Faktorovich's family, friends, and his TSA colleagues."

TSA spokesperson Lori Dankers echoed this sentiment to The Denver Post, revealing that Faktorovich, 49, referred to himself as "Gru" from the "Despicable Me" movie as a substitute for his complicated name.

The publication reports that Faktorovich, who contracted COVID-19 in early November, is the ninth TSA employee to die from the virus.

In the release, TSA called Faktorovich's death a reminder of the seriousness of the pandemic, noting that the agency is "committed to continuing to take every precaution to help protect our workforce as well as airline travelers."
