If you plan on ignoring Colorado's stay-at-home order, you might want to think again.

If you're caught violating the order in the counties of Boulder, Douglas, Adams, Arapahoe, Larimer or Jefferson, you could incur punishments including six to 18 months in jail, as well as fines of up to $5,000, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald.

The Denver Police announced on their Facebook page that they have the ability to issue a fine of $999 to anyone caught out during the stay-at-home order.

Denver Police:

Park rangers, officers & public health officials will be patrolling parks, recreational areas, businesses & neighborhoods. If they observe you violating the order, they will issue a warning. Repeat violations could result in a fine of up to $999.

The main reason to stay at home is to avoid spreading COVID-19. Health experts say that avoiding contact will prevent you from getting sick and hospitals from being overcrowded.

Park rangers, officers and public health officials will be responsible for patrolling parks, recreational areas, businesses and neighborhoods to make sure the city’s order is enforced.
