Fort Collins Police Services is investigating a crash involving a car and multiple motorcycles that left South Taft Hill Road closed for several hours just after 8 p.m. Thursday night (July 29) at the intersection of Taft Hill Road and West Trilby Road in Fort Collins.

According to a Friday (July 30) news release via Fort Collins Police Services, Fort Collins 911 received multiple 911 calls regarding a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Taft Hill Road and West Trilby Road at approximately 8:19 on Thursday, July 29.

One motorcyclist and the vehicle collided, and two other motorcyclists crashed as a result of the collision in front of them. The three motorcyclists sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.

The driver of the Mazda, however, was left uninjured. All drivers involved in the multi-vehicle collision were adult males. Due to the severity of injuries, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation.

Investigators are currently working to determine vehicle positions in the lanes, and whether or not there was a possible lane usage violation involved in the incident. As per the news release, police do not suspect speed, alcohol, or drugs to be factors in this case.

“We are still processing evidence to determine where each vehicle was when the collision occurred. Thankfully the motorcycle riders were all wearing helmets when this occurred, or else the outcome almost certainly would have been more tragic,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Anyone with information regarding the crash who has not already spoken to police is asked to call Officer Ken Koski with Fort Collins Police Services at (970) 416-2229.
