Grand Junction Cold Case File Solved After 45 Years

I'm all about Dateline NBC and just about any other crime show on television so of course I was fascinated to find out that the Grand Junction Police Department solved a cold case file that had gone unsolved for 45 years.

We got the information from KKCO, that a suspect has finally been named in the killing of 19-year-old Deborah Tomlinson that took place back in 1975. The final puzzle pieces got put together thanks to new DNA technology.

Ms. Tomlinson was found in her apartment on the 1000 block of Belford Ave and it was clear to investigators that she was strangled and sexually assaulted after being tied up.

The killer has been identified as Jimmy Dean Duncan, he was 26-years-old when he committed the crime. Unfortunately, he will never face the crime as he died back in 1987.

The case was reopened just last year after this new technology was released and investigators thought that it could possibly identify a suspect after all these years. The best news was when the Grand Junction Police Department could finally let the Tomlinson family know that after 45 years a killed was identified. Hopefully, that helps bring more closure for the family.

It's amazing that after all these years there was a DNA sample from so long ago that could be used with new technology from just last year that could solve a violent crime that was unsolved for 45 years. It will be interesting to see how many more crimes like this we continue to see get pieced together with new technology.
