Greeley Police Investigated Following Officer-Involved Shooting

Greeley police are facing an investigation following an officer-involved shooting that left a man wounded on Monday (June 14) in north Greeley.

Greeley Police arrived at the Stoneybrook Trailer Park in the 400 block of North 35th Avenue in Greeley at 7:44 p.m on Monday, according to the Greeley Tribune, to respond to a disturbance and possible burglary.

The Critical Incident Response Team, which is comprised of a group of Weld County law enforcement agencies that investigate officer-involved shootings, reported that officers on scene during the incident encountered a 57-year-old man who was uncooperative with law enforcement and barricaded himself inside his trailer.

Officers and dispatchers reportedly made several attempts to make contact with the unidentified man; the man told dispatchers he would shoot it out with the officers if they didn’t leave his property.

At 8:25 p.m. the man stepped out to the porch of his trailer and pointed a weapon at the officers. A Greeley police officer then fired a single shot, as per reports from the Greeley Tribune, and the man went back into the trailer.

Nobody had been injured in the initial shooting.

Additional officers soon responded to the scene and made several announcements for the man to surrender.

At 9:14 p.m., the man appeared at the front door of the trailer, again brandishing a weapon, and was shot by an officer.

The man was wounded and was taken by ambulance for treatment to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. No information was available on the man’s condition as of early Tuesday morning (June 15). The Monday night shooting remains under investigation by the Critical Incident Response team.
