How Elk Herds Were Affected by the Cameron Peak Fire

The Cameron Peak Fire, the largest fire in the history of Colorado has been contained. Thousands of acres of habitat were burned in Northern Colorado during that time. How has it affected the elk in this region?

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Cameron Peak Fire has not inhibited elk herds from getting to their wintering grounds. Wildlife biologist, Angelique Curtis, states that she has found that the elk herds are healthy and robust.

An aerial survey of the region's elk herds on January 7 allowed Colorado Parks and Wildlife to gather information on the population and demographics. Collared elk makes it possible for Colorado Parks and Wildlife to track herds of elk in the area. Check out the video of the current research to find out more.
