Is Beloved Actor John Amos the Victim of Elder Abuse in Colorado?
An investigation is currently underway to determine the validity of elder abuse allegations made by the daughter of one of America's most beloved actors.
John Amos, the 83-year-old actor best known for his roles in such films as Roots and Coming to America, has been hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee since May. His daughter, Shannon Amos, has since filed a complaint with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, alleging that Mr. Amos is the victim of both elder abuse and financial exploitation at the hands of an unnamed caretaker.
Shannon Amos made the allegations in an Instagram post dated June 9th, 2023, wherein she indicated that the Amos family was cooperating with CBI officials and local authorities in their investigations. Some of the claims made in the Instagram post are quite disturbing, including the implication that Mr. Amos's home had been "stripped bare." She has since started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Mr. Amos's care and legal fees.
In a press release, as reported by People, the Custer County Sheriff's Office stated that they, "...are thoroughly investigating that allegation and have consulted with our partners at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Department of Human Services. We have also been in contact with Mr. Amos and his attorney.”
Further complicating matters are recent statements to TMZ from John Amos himself, as well as his representation. According to those statements, Mr. Amos and his rep, Belinda Foster, claim that Shannon's statements are not true and that they are unsure as to why she started the GoFundMe campaign.
As of now, the only thing that's clear about this story is that there is an ongoing investigation into Shannon Amos's claims. Unfortunately, we won't have any real answers until the CBI finishes looking into these horrific allegations.
