In Colorado’s Summer Heat, Sleeping With a Fan Could Be Making You Feel Worse

Summer is off to a hot start in Colorado, and many of us are trying to find ways to cool down. I do not have central air conditioning in my house. Did you know that most Coloradans do not have central air conditioning?

That fact made me feel better. However, I am hoping I can move into a spot that has it, and this blistering summer is certainly giving me the motivation.

According to Tom's Guide and other experts, Colorado residents should avoid sleeping with a ceiling fan on at night. Or any fan at all. Easier said than done. These people must have central air conditioning.

The main reasons experts say you should not sleep with a fan are that the fan could dry out your throat, nose, and eyes. This could lead to feeling bad in the morning.

Additionally, if you have allergies, sleeping with a fan could be a big problem because it spreads allergens.

I have allergies, and this is certainly an issue when I have a box fan in the window at night. I typically remedy this by taking an allergy pill the night before.

This is going to switch up my nighttime routine. I think what I will do in the future is keep the shades down in my bedroom. Then, I will open a window and blow the hot air out of the bedroom to get the hot air out when it finally cools down outside. Then I will wear light pajamas and sleep with the thinnest blanket I can find.
