Many residents in Fort Collins are receiving confusing emails from their trash provider. My household has. My household, along with my two neighbors' homes, are incredibly frustrated about garbage.

No, nobody is leaving trash around the neighborhood. We are frustrated because our trash services were just canceled.

Our final service to your home will be the week of September 23. Please leave your empty carts at the curb after they have been serviced next week, so that we can collect them. It is important not to add any material to the carts after service. We aim to pick up your carts swiftly but it may take a day or two, as we have large numbers to collect. Thank you for your patience during this transition. We have appreciated the opportunity to service your home.

Wait... what? My trash service is ending? If you are surprised, you have come to the right place. Trash services are changing all across Fort Collins. You will no longer have much of a choice, in regards to garbage pick-up, in the Choice City.

Only One Choice Now in Fort Collins

Last year, the city of Fort Collins signed a contract with Republic Services to be the only trash service for residents of the city.

Basically, if you live in Fort Collins and have another garbage service that is not Republic Services, well you better sign up soon before you are left with all of your garbage at your home.

Here is what the city of Fort Collins said:

The Contracted Residential Trash and Recycling program is designed to increase opportunities for composting and recycling, provide equitable, consistent pricing across the community, as well as increase safety and reduce emissions by reducing the number of trash trucks on residential streets.

Notices were sent out. Unfortunately, I just now realized that all of my notices were in my spam folder. It is a good reminder for me to check it more often.

If you are a Fort Collins resident you can sign up for your new service below.
