Have you ever purchased a lemon in Colorado? We do not mean the fruit that you may use for lemonade or additional flavor. We are talking about vehicles.

Far too often Colorado's are stuck with lemons. These are vehicles that are purchased and have constant issues. I bought a Honda Civic about five years ago.

I was incredibly excited until the car kept breaking down. The radiator was busted. Then the transmission went, and there were countless other problems.

I ended up trading in the vehicle for another within the first year. Maybe you have a story like mine. Thankfully, new laws have been put in place to protect car owners from this sort of situation.

Lemon Laws in Colorado

Colorado has made massive upgrades to its lemon law, which will be officially set in stone on August 7. The new law will protect vehicles up to two years old or cover the first 24,000 miles.

Additionally, Colorado's lemon law will cover vehicles for personal and business use whether that business is small or large.

The new law lowers the threshold for a car to be considered a lemon. Now, it takes three failed repair attempts for the same problem or 24 or more business days in the shop. If the issue affects safety, the car is labeled a lemon after just two failed repair attempts.

Claim Periods Will Be Longer in Colorado

Denver 7 says that the claim period will be longer. Owners will be able to file a claim within the first 30 months of owning the vehicle. This will be extremely helpful for many Colorado residents who are put in bad situations.
