Over 400 Coloradans Facing Layoffs with the New Year
For 400 workers in Colorado, there'll be less celebrating of the holidays, because after the holidays, they'll be out of work. It's going to be tough tor them to keep going in until then, one would imagine.
Nobody likes the sound of people being unemployed, especially when it will come on the heels of what's supposed to be a joyous, relaxed time of the year. When you work for a company that makes a lot of money around the holidays, however, you're stuck.
2025 is definitely going to be life-changing for 400 workers.
UPS Announces Layoffs in Colorado Effective January 2025
The Denver Gazette reports that UPS is looking to shave $3 billion of the books by the time 2028 comes around, and part of that shaving will include shuttering (at least temporarily) its Commerce City facility, including laying off over 400, by Jan 15, 2025.
I think many Coloradans, at one time or another, have faced being "laid off;" why does it always seem to happen around the holidays, though? Maybe, (trying to look on the bright side) these workers will be adjusting their budgets going into the holidays, and won't be "shell-shocked" after putting Christmas on credit cards.

This closure of the Commerce City facility will probably just be one of about 200 that UPS plans to close to consolidate and therefore get closer to saving $3 billion by 2028.
Cuts Lead to UPS' Vision of a 'Network of the Future'
Competition with Amazon is surely taking its toll on the longtime shipping company.; but it still hurts to see 400+ Coloradans let go, just as a new year is getting under way.
