4 Colorado Homes Need to Be Demolished Because of Pond?
Buying a home in Colorado can be pricey; but when you do buy one, the last thing you want to hear is that it has to be torn down and you have to move.
Add to the fact that, the "why" of it all, is because they were built where never should have been, and the location's past was kept secret to the buyers of these four homes.
Yes, the town is stepping to buy the homes, but that doesn't really help. It's just one of those stories you hear, and have a hard time believing, but it's true.
4 Homes in Johnstown, Colorado, Coming Down Because of Retention Pond
According to 9News, it's a very bad situation for four homeowners in Johnstown, as they'll be losing their homes, because they were "lied to" by the homebuilder. These folks have lived in their homes for upwards of 10 years, now that's over.

It turns out that the builder filled in a retention pond and put the homes there. That builder did not disclose that to the homebuyers. It may that this sort of thing happens all the time, but it does sound pretty deceitful.
Area Flooding Reveals Land's Past to Homeowners
The homeowners became aware of the area's past, after flooding in 2023. Of course a retention pond helps to control flooding. it does seem odd that the town wasn't involved in this whole thing, prior; as in, "you can't just take away a retention pond..."
According to 9News, the Town of Johnstown will be purchasing the four homes from the homeowners, to put a new retention pond in the area. With today's home prices, however at least of one of the four homeowner will not be buying another home in Colorado.
