After Over 30 Years and New Owners, Colorado Sandwich Shop May Be Closed for Good
A sandwich shop in Colorado that began as a college class project blossomed into a legendary spot near campus. What began in 1988 may have seen its official last day in the summer of 2024.
Running a restaurant/bar, even one as small as this one, isn't easy. When you add in expenses of operation increasing at a near exorbitant rate, it becomes much harder to keep your head above water, regardless of how much you love the place.
It's even more sad that they didn't even have time to let everyone in one last time to say goodbye.
Started in 1988 by Robert "Bob" Piccaro and Brenda Smith, B&B Pickle Barrel in Fort Collins near the Colorado State University Campus announced its [latest] closure on July 19, 2024.

According to The Coloradoan, the Pickle Barrel had been bought from Brenda Smith 2021 by a couple who had hoped to keep shop going for many more years. That dream came to an end just about a year later, when they had to close B&B Pickle Barrel.
Pickle Barrel Rose From the Ashes Before
After being closed since August of 2022, it was announced that B&B Pickle Barrel would indeed reopen, with a new ownership group in the spring of 2023. This was team made of up Fort Collins natives, persons with experience in business, and drive, but it just wasn't enough.
I think we all have experienced the pain (in some fashion) from property taxes increasing so much in Colorado; it makes it easier to understand the team's frustration with it all.
