If you ever eat in a restaurant, buy cups of coffee or go pretty much anywhere with a service element, you know how often you're confronted with the reality of rewarding employees who go above and beyond to help you. We've all seen the memes of iPads being spun around for you to push a button granting whoever is helping you with 20%, 22%, 25% or more.

While sometimes we're presented with situations where gratuity maybe is expected and shouldn't be, there are a ton of circumstances where it's not only appropriate, but truly necessary for people doing their job to make any money at all.

The State of Colorado ranks 7th nationally in average gratuity, according to a survey by USA Today.

Coloradans, on average, tip at a rate of 19.85%, according to the data, nearly 2% higher than the national average of 17.94%, though nearly 3% off the number one state, California.
