Squeezed Out: Windsor Middle School Brings in “New” Used Modular
Being on Main Street (Highway 392), Windsor Middle School sees a lot of traffic passing by. Travelers have recently taken note of how where there was once a track, there is now a modular building.
It goes without saying that more and more people are moving into the Windsor area. It's a great community, albeit with parking problems in Downtown, but it's friendly and had great proximity to Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley. With a bigger population comes the need for bigger schools; until a new middle school comes in, adjustments need to be made.
Above, is a view of Windsor Middle School's exterior that you may not see, ever again. They've installed a 'new' modular classroom building directly adjacent to the school building. It may not be forever, but for the "right now," Windsorites wont be seeing students run around the track or practice football, right off of Main Street.
At first, when they were first constructing this building, I thought it was just going to be a temporary thing for summer, while they did some sort of work inside Windsor Middle School. That is not the case, at all. The fact is, there's just not enough room inside the school, for all the students they serve.
According to the Greeley Tribune, from 2009 to 2021, the student population in the Weld RE-4 school district went from about 4,100 to about 7,500. They had tried to get a $179 million bond package passed by the school board to build more schools, but it failed
It was in mid-December of 2021, that the school board OK'd $89 million to purchase some more modular buildings for the district to use, including the one for Windsor Middle School, which came used, from the Eaton School District. This "new" modular classroom building will be the fifth for school, as they already have four on the east side of the school.
WHAT ABOUT THE FOOTBALL FIELD AND TRACK?
I reached out to Windsor Middle School about the football field/track, and they let me know that they're moving all that to the north side of the campus, where they have some room. Find out more about a future bond for RE-4 HERE.
