Vinyl records shops are growing again in popularity; maybe someone will resurrect one of these shops. These weren't national shops that had locations in Colorado, these were Colorado, all the way.

Sure, some Coloradans might remember places like Peaches or Borders, but how many folks in the Centennial State say they remember these two classic vinyl shops that we used to have?

Oh, to be able to go back in time and walk through their doors..

2 Vinyl Record Shops That Colorado Had 'Back in the Day'

The Finest Records & Tapes

'Finest' as it was known, first opened in 1974 at Campus West in Fort Collins. It was started by two cousins who pooled their collections together to open the shop. There was a second "Finest" in Greeley on 11th Avenue.

The Finest used to have a yearly "Parking Lot Sale," where prices were slashed on used albums and you could find great deals on "limited edition" vinyls. I remember sales, and going into the Campus West location to get movie posters, too.

The Finest did change hands, but eventually ended in 2008.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN RECORDS AND TAPES

Rocky Mountain Records and Tapes also dated back to the mid-1970s. There were five of them in the state: Two in Denver, two in Boulder, and one in Fort Collins. They always had the vibe of being laid-back but legit.

Rocky Mountain Records and Tapes was bought out in 1992 by a California company, Wherehouse. It's unclear what happened to all of those five locations, but I do know the Fort Collins location, that was at Laurel Street and College Avenue, has been a Chipotle for at least 15 years.
