It takes a real effort to keep a nice big green lawn in Grand Junction year after year, so hats off to those who can make it happen. When it comes to taking care of all that grass, is it illegal to just blow those grass clippings into the street?
Yard Waste in Colorado
Organic material gathered from yards in and around Grand Junction is collected weekly from April to October for composting. Residents are issued 96-gallon bins so that yard waste can be easily stored and collected without being left on the curb to drift down the street and into someone else's lawn. We also don't need grass, pine needles, or leaves getting into the storm drains.
Pushing Grass Clippings Into the Street
According to Colorado Revised Statute § 18-4-511, yard waste is considered junk. It's illegal to leave junk on public or private property and that includes yard waste on a city street. This is why it's a good idea to take care of that giant yard waste bin and not let it blow away in a storm.
