When there were multiple different wildfires burning in the Front Range this summer, state officials had to warn people about fundraising scams pretending to go towards affected communities.

We’ve also seen an uptick in scams claiming to be from Colorado’s Department of Transportation trying to fool people into thinking they have unpaid express lane tickets.

All of this is concerning since Coloradans are more likely to be scammed than almost the entire country.

However, a recent example of a person stealing money happened here in Northern Colorado, and it’s a pretty serious crime.

Woman Steals $650,000 From Multiple Northern Colorado HOAs

Many people live on properties that have homeowners associations.

In some cases, they don’t bother anyone living in the neighborhood and many people actually get a lot of benefit out of their HOAs.

However, there have been some absolute horror stories surrounding HOAs in the past. This story may top the rest.

According to 9News, a woman named Sandra Oldenburg has been arrested for serious mismanagement of HOA money.

She worked for two different companies, Poudre Property Services and NOCO Real Estate Solutions.

People who lived on her properties, particularly in Johnstown, noticed that their HOA accounts were suddenly running dry.

One community in particular, Carlson Farms, filed a lawsuit with Poudre Property Services all the way back in February of last year noting that hundreds of thousands of dollars had simply disappeared without any reason.

As it would turn out, it was because Oldenburg used multiple different ways to drain their accounts.

She’s currently facing charges for theft, fraud by check, money laundering, second-degree forgery, and cybercrime. Many of these are felonies, and she’s the only suspect in the crime. In total, she stole about $650,000 worth of money from these HOA accounts.

Fortunately for these HOAs, it would appear that justice has absolutely been served.
