As we enter into the middle of October, we’re still faced with something that has been highly unusual for Colorado; the heat.

The beginning of the month had genuinely summer-like days, which definitely was a cause for concern. Since then, it started to cool down a little bit, but we’re by no means having typical autumn weather still.

However, even as temperatures are set to cool down a bit this weekend,it looks like we’ll be jumping right back to 60 and 70 degree weather in Northern Colorado afterwards.

While some people are looking at the upsides of such weather sticking around for longer, there’s a group of people who definitely are concerned; skiers and snowboarders.

However, for those groups, it would appear some good news in the snow department is here.

What has concerned many people about the weather recently is not just the heat, but also how dry it has become.

Personally, I’ve seen it myself.

As a big fisherman, one of my favorite places to stop by is Windsor Lake. Normally, the water goes all the way up to the bank. At this moment, it’s been so long since we’ve had rain that the water has receded by multiple feet.

This has also meant that so far, the mountains have also not been getting a lot of snow, which is not great for ski resorts.

In fact, according to the Denver Gazette, there hasn’t been any sign of precipitation at all in the mountains since September 22nd.

Fortunately for resorts and powder hounds alike, it seems that this drought is finally about to end.

It would appear a storm is on its way to Colorado that will bring rain and cooler temperatures to the Front Range, but could pile on snow in the mountains.

This will not only help cover the upper parts of ski resorts, but will help them get started with snowmaking as well.

When Do Colorado Ski Resorts Open?

While we have not yet reached ski season, we’re definitely on the brink of a couple of openings around Colorado.

The two resorts that are going to be open for the season are Keystone and Winter Park. Keystone is opening next Friday on October 25th, while Winter Park is opening on October 28th.
