Warning: Colorado City Easily One of the Worst for Drunk Driving
Colorado is a place that is filled with multitudes, and that definitely is reflected through just driving through the state.
For example, we’ve got some of the worst interstates in the country in I-70 and I-25, which can be absolutely brutal if you’re going to the mountains or trying to go north or south in the Front Range.
However, Colorado is filled with some of the most stunning drives you will ever get the chance to see.
Just going up the Cache La Poudre River Canyon using Highway 14 is absolute eye candy every time. Plus, it’s basically in the backyards of many people living in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado.
However, the people driving in Colorado can be a pretty major problem.
For example, we have the fourth worst road rage problem in the entire country. If you’ve driven here, this should come as no surprise.
Yet, an even scarier statistic has popped up about a particular city in Colorado that should have people concerned.
Pueblo Ranks as the Third Worst City for Drunk Driving in the U.S.
It feels like Pueblo truly gets a bad wrap when it comes to a lot of these rankings.
I mean, they do have some fantastic stuff there, including housing one of the top rated drive-in theaters in America, Mesa Drive-In.
However, a recent study by a law firm called Van Der Veen, Hartshorn, Levin and Lindheim does not bode well for the town.
They have Pueblo ranked as the third worst in the nation for fatal drunk driving accidents per 100,000 people, with 17.84.
Of course, they quantify drunk driving by the person having a BAC of 0.08, but also take into account the amount of fatal accidents happening with drivers having above a 0.15 BAC.
Four other towns were in the ranking, including Colorado Springs (24th), Lakewood (31st), Thornton (46th), and Denver (49th).
What Cities Placed Higher Than Pueblo?
According to the study, only two other cities placed higher in terms of the amount of fatal drunk driving crashes per 100,000: San Bernardino, California, and Odessa, Texas.
San Bernardino came in with a per 100,000 of 18.15, just barely above Pueblo.
However, Odessa is truly an insane outlier in this study, given it comes in at 27.46 fatal drunk driving accidents per 100,000 residents. That’s nearly 10 more than Pueblo.
