Halloween Event at Notorious Colorado Coroner’s Office Labeled Insensitive
This past August, a routine inspection of Davis Mortuary in Pueblo, Colorado, led to a grisly discovery when mishandled human remains were found decomposing, prompting the county’s coroner at the time, Brian Cotter, to resign.

Now, roughly two months later, Pueblo County has announced that a Halloween-themed event is set to take place at the county coroner’s office this year, and the response has been, as one might expect, less than enthusiastic.
Halloween Event to Take Place at Pueblo, Colorado Coroner's Office
On Wednesday, October 15, the official Facebook page of Pueblo County published a flyer online announcing that a Halloween-themed event is scheduled to take place at the county coroner's office this year.
The flyer contains a large reproduction of the Pueblo County Coroner’s emblem and reads, “Trick or Treat,” “Come be “spooky” with us!,” and “Bring your little ghosts, goblins, and super-heroes for a safe and sweet Halloween celebration!”
The event is set to take place on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the county coroner’s office at 1300 North Santa Fe Avenue in Pueblo.
To be clear, this location is not where the grisly discovery was made back in August, but given the circumstances regarding the county’s most recent coroner, the response to this announcement hasn’t been positive.
What Are People Saying About the Colorado Halloween Event?
Comments on the announcement range from tongue-in-cheek to sheer outrage that the county would draw attention to the coroner’s office, especially with a “spooky” event, so soon after the horrifying events that took place back in August.
