Most South Park Fans Don’t Know the Show’s Origin Was Hidden in a Tiger Woods Video Game
Not only has it been reported that the popular television cartoon South Park is, understandably, the most popular TV show in Colorado, but the show has numerous ties to the state.

The creators of the show, Trey Parker, who is a native of Conifer, and Matt Stone, who is from Littleton, have made headlines in recent years because of the fact that the pair, after making Denver’s Casa Bonita famous on a global scale because of an episode that featured the restaurant, saved it from going out of business permanently following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, it has been revealed to some, and reminded to others, that the short animated film that was the catalyst for the now-wildly popular cartoon that is known and loved by many and has given the state of Colorado recognition on a global scale was a hidden, often overlooked Easter Egg in a popular video game that was released over a quarter of a century ago.
The Origin of Colorado’s Favorite Cartoon
The short film, which was created by South Park masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone while attending the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1992, was called “The Spirit of Christmas.”
The film, which would serve as not only the visual inspiration for the now-legendary cartoon but also go viral at a point in time when the internet was in its infancy, leading to the show’s creation, was not intended to be seen by the general public at the time.
In fact, The Spirit of Christmas was a film that was commissioned by someone close to the would-be South Park creators as a cartoon Christmas card.
However, the video would be copied to numerous VHS tapes and spread around Hollywood, eventually landing in the hands of executives who would give the Colorado cartoonists the opportunity of a lifetime.
Colorado’s Favorite Cartoon’s Origin was in a Video Game
Now, it has been revealed, and for some, reminded, that the short film that started the South Park phenomenon was cleverly embedded in a completely unrelated video game in 1999.
The game, which was called Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour and was released by EA Sports for PlayStation and Windows in 1999, contained The Spirit of Christmas, which was only accessible when the CD was inserted into a computer.
