Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Coloradans have unfortunately seen many beloved businesses close their doors for good, and even iconic businesses like The Dark Horse in Boulder and, until South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone stepped in, Casa Bonita, have been on the chopping block.

Is Colorado's Largest Theme Park Going to Be Saved?
The initial plans for the River Mile project showed new residential and commercial developments where Elitch Gardens currently stands, which caught the ire of many Coloradans.

However, following the recent announcement that KSE, a heavy hitter in Denver owned by billionaire Stan Kroenke, had taken over full ownership of both Elitch Gardens and Meow Wolf, it appears that the beloved amusement park will remain intact for the time being, despite the River Mile project continuing to push forward.
Mike Neary, Executive Vice President of KSE, said the following in the statement:
A day at Elitch’s is a rite of summer for more than a million visitors annually. We intend to keep it that way and better than ever.
While the statement does give hope to the longevity of Elitch Gardens, it does not specify how long the park will remain intact.
