UPDATE: Police Arrest Suspect for Hit and Run Death of Weld County Deputy

Law enforcement has arrested the suspect in the hit-and-run death of a Weld County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) deputy.
The incident occurred north of Greeley on Sunday (Sept. 18), when a man going by Octavio Gonzalez-Garcia crashed into the motorcycle of WCSO Deputy Alexis Hein-Nutz, killing her. He fled from the scene, causing a statewide search.
According to a Facebook update from WCSO, officers from the Colorado State Patrol (CPS), Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS), and WCSO discovered that the suspect was hiding in Fort Collins and arrested him without incident at 10:15 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 19).
Following the arrest, investigators determined the suspect's true identity to be Norberto Garcia-Gonzales, 36. Police used Hein-Nutz's handcuffs to arrest him.
"We would like to thank the community for their compassion during this difficult time and for providing us with so many useful tips," said WCSO. "It was a tip from a Weld County resident that steered us to Fort Collins and resulted in Garcia-Gonzales' arrest."
Garcia-Gonzales now faces charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death and Careless Driving Resulting in Death. At the time of the update, he was due to appear in Greeley court on Tuesday (Sept. 20).
In a separate post, Weld County Sheriff Steve Reims remembered Hein-Nutz as "a caring deputy and a positive force." Having been with WCSO for nearly four years, she would have celebrated her 25th birthday next week.
