Larimer County Health Director Stresses COVID Precautions

Larimer County Health Director, Tom Gonzales has repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining proper COVID-19 precautions, including social distancing and limiting gatherings with people that don't live in your immediate household.

Although Larimer County coronavirus cases seem to have hit a plateau, Gonzales is concerned that residents are relaxing their precautions.

“I’m hearing some concerning information about people gathering during interviews with contact tracers,” Gonzales said during a public meeting Tuesday (Jan. 26), explaining that he has heard of more people congregating in groups outside their households, which could lead to increased spread of COVID-19.

“I just want to get it out to the community that we don’t want to go the other way because that impacts our businesses, it rolls back our in-person learning, and that makes it a whole lot more difficult for everyone. Hang in there. We’ve got a few more months while we’re rolling out the vaccine.”

Larimer County’s overall risk rating remained high on Wednesday (Jan. 27), with a two-week prevalence rate of 318 cases per 100,000, down slightly, and a positivity rating of 5.7%.

As of Wednesday morning, there have been 17,437 cases of COVID-19 in Larimer County since the beginning of the pandemic.
