Learn More About the “Circus” That Helps Fight Cancer
Northern Colorado will soon be hosting a "circus" to help fight cancer.
The event is officially known as the Gala for Wellness — a circus-themed night featuring a three-course meal, an open bar, live circus entertainment, card games, and the opportunity to win a brand new car.
Hosted by the McKee Wellness Foundation, the gala will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 at the Embassy Suites in Loveland.
The McKee Wellness Foundation is a local organization that is working to bridge the gaps between the needs of the Northern Colorado community and health and wellness resources.
These gaps are numerous, ranging from the expenses of cancer treatments to the high costs of nursing education.
"There's a huge gamut of things that we can help support," said Allis Gilbert, the foundation's executive director. "There's no shortage of gaps, so we're always looking and listening for the next initiative that needs to be started."
Once of these initiatives is cancer support, the target of this year's Gala for Wellness. For one individual, tickets range from $175 to $225, and all of the proceeds benefit cancer patients.
The term "cancer support" covers a large umbrella of needs, as every cancer patient's journey is different.
The McKee Wellness Foundation works to provide holistic services for these patients, including ones they might not be able to get from their doctor alone.
"...we're looking to provide alternative pain treatments, comfort care, and anything that could be happening outside of the medical world that could be affecting their treatment," said Gilbert. "For some people, it's having to get their groceries."
Gilbert likes to refer to the foundation as a "yes" organization — one that can always be there to offer their patients the support they need.
However, in order to say yes, the foundation needs the help of the community they are working so hard to benefit.
