Lock Up: Increased Reports of Vehicle Break-Ins at Larimer Trails

When visiting local parks and open spaces, the last thing on people's minds is worrying about their belongings back in the car, especially when they are eager to get out and hit the trails.

But the Department of Natural Resources is warning outdoor enthusiasts to be more vigilant, as they've seen a steady uptick of vehicle break-ins taking place at Larimer County trailhead parking lots. During the holiday season, many people leave gifts and other valuable possessions stowed in their cars, making them easy targets for thieves on the prowl.

Recently, the Larimer County's Department of Natural Resources has received reports of vehicle break-ins at Horsetooth Mountain, Soderberg Open Space, Blue Sky, and Devil's Backbone, but caution anyone who is parking in a trailhead lot to take all valuables with them on their adventure or leave them at home prior to coming.

It seems like common sense, but it's always a good idea to lock your vehicle when leaving it parked in a lot, especially if you'll be away from it for an extended period of time.
