Legendary wrestler ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage died today in a car accident in Tampa, Florida, reports TMZ. He was 58.

Savage’s brother, Lanny Poffo, said he passed away after he lost control of his car when he had a heart attack shortly before 9:30AM. The Florida Highway Patrol says Savage drove across a concrete median and into oncoming traffic before he hit a tree.

His wife of one year, Lynn, was in the car with him at the time, but she escaped with minor injuries.

Fellow wrestling great The Rock posted a message on his Twitter feed after learning of Savage’s death. He wrote, “RIP Randy “Macho Man” Savage – you were one of my childhood inspirations and heros. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family.”

Savage gained legions of followers after joining the WWF in 1985. His catchphrase of “Ooooooh, yeaahhhhh” became synonymous with his antics in the ring. He was also known for his work in the Slim Jim commercials.

Randy Savage had was believed to have had a heart attack at the wheel causing him to lose control and hit a tree. His wife of just over a year was with him and has minor injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
