Man Arrested for Stabbing His Dog and Assaulting a Man While on Drugs
A man is in custody after stabbing his dog and assaulting a man while reportedly under the influence of illegal drugs.
Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) received a report about a residential disturbance in the 400 block of Smith Street around 2:17 a.m. on March 2, according to a press release from the City of Fort Collins.
Upon arrival, officers learned that Aaron La Guardia, 35, had stabbed his dog and physically assaulted another man in the house while allegedly on unidentified illegal drugs.
The man and the other residents in the house were able to safely exit before police arrived. He was not injured, but the dog did not survive.
La Guardia remained inside the home, but police convinced him to come out via a phone call.
He was safely arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail, and is now facing charges of Third Degree Assault, Felony Menacing, First Degree Burglary, and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
"Illegal substances can cause erratic, unpredictable, and extremely dangerous behavior," said FCPS Chief Jeff Swoboda. "Using hard drugs can have devastating outcomes. If you or someone you know has a substance dependency issue, help is available in our community."
