Mile High Prices: Denver Has the 11th Most Expensive Homes in the U.S.

From its gorgeous skyline to its hoppin' nightlife, Denver seemingly has it all. Unfortunately, living in a place as great as the Mile High City means mile-high housing prices.

According to a new report from Porch, Denver has the 11th most expensive homes out of all the large metropolitan cities in the U.S., with the price of a 2,000-square-foot home sitting at a whoppin' $554,628.

Apartment costs don't fair much better — the rent for a two-bedroom unit is around $1,750 per month.

These prices put Denver's cost of living at 4.2% above the national average, which is $342,719 for a 2,000-square foot home and $1,333 per month for a two-bedroom apartment.

Colorado's smaller metro areas aren't cheap either.

In terms of midsize metropolitan cities, Fort Collins has the 19th most expensive homes in the U.S., with a cost of living that is 2% above the national average. When looking at small metropolitan cities, Boulder's housing prices come in fifth.

However, don't let these prices steer you away from the Centennial State forever. Colorado's costs pale in comparison to Hawaii, which has a typical 2,000-square-foot home price of $1,140,723.

If oceanside views and mountainous landscapes still aren't worth the price, consider giving the Midwest a try. Residents of Cleveland, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana are currently enjoying housing prices under $260,000.
