The UCHealth Greeley Hospital was formally accredited today (July 22nd) following a surprise visit from The Joint Commission, according to a news release from UCHealth.

The Joint Commission is an independent non-profit that evaluates health care facilities all over the nation, awarding accreditation to those that meet its performance quality standards.

When visiting Greeley, the Commission observed the hospital's emergency management, care environment, infection prevention and control, as well as leadership and medication management.

After conducting on-site interviews, The Joint Commission gave UCHealth Greeley its "Gold Seal" of approval.

The accreditation means that the hospital can now participate in insurance programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Tricare. Greeley Hospital President Marilyn Schock called this a "...key milestone that demonstrates we are committed to providing safe and quality patient care."

UCHealth officially opened on July 3rd, and currently holds 50 inpatient beds with plans to expand. Since its opening, over 800 people have been admitted to the hospital for care.

With around 400 employees on staff and hundreds of physicians, the facility is able to offer services such as a birth center, an intensive care unit, operating rooms, an emergency department, and more.

Schock said the staff is honored to care for patients of Weld County, stating they are "grateful for such an outpouring of support from the community."
