September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day, and Local Northern Colorado musicians are getting together for a special evening of music, art and poetry called "Let's Be Still."

This event will benefit Alliance for Suicide Prevention and will be held September 10 at Wolverine Farm Publick House in Fort Collins from 6-830pm, with doors set to open at 5:30pm.

"Tuned In to NoCo" got to speak with Board-Certified Music Therapist and Singer/Songwriter/Performer Carlos Barata. Barata says their goal with this event is to raise awareness by creating a safe space for everyone to talk about mental health.

"This is an opportunity for people to come together for an evening of connection, expression and stillness. It also is an opportunity, in a very literal and figurative way, for us to break the silence that surrounds mental health and the stigma that goes with suicide conversations everywhere."

Along with poetry and music, Barata says they will have resources for those who are having a tough time and need some extra support as well.

"The Alliance for suicide prevention will be there. We'll have the Yarrow Collective, which is a peer support group that helps people work through these types of things. We'll also have Pathways for Grief and Loss...they have an excellent team of grief counselors who will be there providing a variety of different activities, memorial based activities and resources in case anyone has questions or is interested in getting extra support."

Barata says he wants this event to cast a stone of hope into our community, and he hopes this stone will create a ripple effect for years to come.

"This event is an opportunity to take care of each other and to be kind. Because a lot of people are going through things that we don't know anything about. So, if we go forth in every interaction with a little more love in mind, I think it could be the solution that we need to prevent suicide."

"Let's Be Still" will be presenting a memorial slideshow of those who have been lost to suicide in our community. If you want to participate, you can send photos to this email: carlosbaratamail@gmail.com.

To RSVP for the event, send $15 to the Venmo: @letsbestill. However, If you can't make the event, but still want to donate, they will be accepting donations here as well.
