In late May, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office worked with the Boulder Police Department to successfully dismantle a multi-county theft ring that was operating in the Northern Colorado area.

Just after 5 p.m. on May 28, Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputies and investigators responded to assist the Boulder Police Department in the 400 block of Grand Market Avenue in Berthoud. Detectives with the Boulder Police Department had started surveillance of a known auto theft suspect at that location.

Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the home and property that they were watching, and recovered five stolen vehicles as well as five stolen trailers. Besides the vehicles and trailers, investigators also located stolen tools, firearms, credit cards, electronics and other miscellaneous property. Investigators estimate that they recovered around $200,000 worth of property that had been stolen from Berthoud, Boulder, Longmont, Fort Collins, Lakewood, and Parker. Many of the items were determined to have been taken during a spree of vehicle trespasses that occurred in Berthoud in late May.

Deputies ultimately arrested Cory J. Lafferty of Berthoud and Justin J. Castner of Greeley in connection with the stolen items.
