We have been seeing more and more clear skies in the state of Colorado. However, there are still a few wildfires burning in the state. Dry conditions during this time of year make our region more prone to wildfires, so extra precautions taken by all that enjoy our mountains should be taken.

Currently, in Northern Colorado, there are two wildfires burning. Here is what we know about those two fires:

Black Mountain Fire

The Black Mountain Fire was reported on Sunday, August 29 in the Routt National Forest. According to the Incident Information System, the Black Mountain Fire was started by lightning and has burned a total of 418 acres. A total of 101 personnel are working to extinguish the fire which is now at 91 percent containment. It is estimated the Black Mountain Fire will be fully contained by October 31.

Morgan Creek Fire

The Morgan Creek Fire was reported on Friday, July 9 in the Routt National Forest. The Incident Information System shows that the Morgan Creek Fire was started by lightning and had burned a total of 7,586 acres as of September 17. Currently, there are a total of six personnel working the Morgan Creek Fire that is currently at 36 percent containment. Personel has been reduced due to the progress in the containment and the behavior of the fire. At this time there is no estimated containment date.

Muddy Slide Fire

The Muddy Slide Fire that started on Sunday, June 20 has burned a total of 4,093 acres has been reported 100 percent fully contained as of September 16 according to the Incident Information System. The Muddy Slide Fire located 20 miles south of Steamboat Springs was said to be caused by lightning.
