The Poudre School District recently sent out a letter to parents warning of a possible unplanned non-student, teacher workday.  The Poudre Education Association is encouraging staff to use paid leave on Friday, April 27 to lobby in Denver about education funding proposal in the State Legislature. The district will decide this week if they will have enough teachers that day to hold classes that day. A decision will be made by Friday.

This is the letter that was sent out to parents:

Dear PSD Parents,

As you may be aware, conversations are taking place in Colorado regarding funding for public education. Earlier this week, many of our teachers wore red in support of public education and gathered outside of schools to bring greater awareness to the issue of education funding.

In addition to this visible protest, the Poudre Education Association has encouraged staff to use paid leave time on April 27 to lobby in Denver regarding education funding proposals at the state level. We are expecting a large number of our teachers to report an absence on this day in support of this issue.

We will be evaluating staff availability for April 27 to determine if there are enough adults to adequately supervise children. If not, the District may designate it as a non-student, teacher workday. As such, students may not have school on April 27.

We are actively monitoring planned staff absences and will communicate our decision regarding school on April 27 by this Friday (April 20). This will give families time to plan if we can’t hold school.

We take our responsibility to students and the community very seriously. Our decision will be made with the best interest of our children and their safety in mind.
