Swimming pools and summer activities wrapped over Labor Day weekend, but the sweltering heat has stuck around. Following a week of record-high temps in Fort Collins, many of us are wondering when we'll get that cool, crisp fall weather — because a PSL just doesn't hit the same when your steering wheel is burning your hands.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday, September 9, 2021, was the seventh-hottest September day on record for Fort Collins, reaching a high of 97 degrees. Ironically, the hottest September day on record is September 6, 2020, which came just ahead of a snowstorm.

There's no snow in our immediate forecast this time, but Friday, September 10 is expected to be another record heat day. The National Weather Service tweeted that Friday 'will be one of the warmest September days in Colorado history,' adding that 'most locations will break their record highs for the date, and will be near the record highs for the month.' Friday is expected to reach a high of 97 degrees.

So, when will we cool off? With Colorado being, you know, Colorado, that's hard to say. But, it is probably safe to say that you can likely count on a snow-free September this year. Starting Sunday, things will cool off slightly, with highs in the 80s. By Tuesday, the high will only reach the upper 70s.

If you take a look at the extended monthly forecast from AccuWeather, which slightly differs from the National Weather Service, you'll see that the remainder of the month has highs mostly in the 70s and 80s and rarely reaching the 90s. And, for those of you who aren't eager to rush into winter, the extended forecast doesn't show any kind of winter weather in September, though we all know that's subject to change. For now, ask for your pumpkin drinks on the rocks.
