Rockies General Manager Steps Down

In a decision that's bound to bring a sense of relief to many Rockies fans, general manager Jeff Bridich announced that he has stepped down from his role, effective immediately.

Bridich spent a total of 17 years with the Rockies. He initially joined Colorado's MLB organization in 2004. Bridich transitioned to senior director of baseball operations in 2006 and moved to senior director of player development in 2011. In October of 2014, Bridich was named general manager/executive vice president of the team.

While the Rockies may have had their only two consecutive playoff appearances in franchise history under Bridich's management, there were several other moves made along the way that caused fans to scratch their heads and question the decisions of the front office. Most notably, fans couldn't quite understand the former GM's choice to trade all-star third baseman, Nolan Arenado, prior to this season.

With the absence of Bridich, Greg Feasel will step in as president/chief operating officer. Feasel has been with the organization for 26 seasons. He will now oversee baseball operations in addition to his current responsibilities, which include leading all facets of the club's business operations. He will also assist with spearheading the Rockies' role of playing host to the 2021 MLB All-Star Game in July.

An official announcement on the team's Twitter explained that the Rockies will be appointing an interim general manager for the remainder of the season. Following the conclusion of the 2021 postseason, the club will conduct a search for a permanent general manager.
